    RAW movies output

You can output 16-bit RAW movies from the camera to a compatible external recorder*1 via a Premium High Speed HDMI Cable (sold separately).
This new feature offers flexibility during the advanced post production editing workflow.
You can output 16-bit video in full frame size (aspect ratio 16:9), and set frame rates (NTSC: 60p, 30p, 24p; PAL: 50p, 25p).
Furthermore, you can output RAW movies via HDMI while recording 4K movies (XAVC HS 4K, XAVC S 4K, XAVC S-I 4K) in the camera's memory card. You can simultaneously record a low-bit-rate proxy movie when recording a movie.

*1Ninja TX / Ninja TX GO supports RAW movie output. For detailed compatibility information, refer to the website, etc. provided by Atomos.

    About RAW movies

RAW movies are unprocessed video data output from the image sensor of the camera. RAW data contains an abundant amount of information and is therefore suitable when shooting movies based on the assumption that the movie will be edited after shooting.
When post processing such as noise reduction, lens compensation, and SteadyShot function, which is performed internally in the camera, is required during editing, use a third-party editing software.

    1. Connecting Atomos Ninja TX / Ninja TX GO

Connect the camera and Atomos Ninja TX / Ninja TX GO using a Premium High Speed HDMI cable.

    • Connect a Premium High Speed HDMI cable to the HDMI type A jack on the camera.
    • Connect the other end of the Premium High Speed HDMI cable to the HDMI input jack on Atomos Ninja TX / Ninja TX GO.

    Notes

    • We recommend using the cable clamper to prevent a Premium High Speed HDMI cable from being disconnected.
    • If no image is displayed, make sure that a Premium High Speed HDMI cable is connected properly.
    1. Setting the camera

Perform settings for the audio and video to be output to Atomos Ninja TX / Ninja TX GO connected via HDMI.

After using the Still/Movie/S&Q dial to set the shooting mode to Movie, configure the following settings.

    1. [Log Shooting Setting]

MENU → (Shooting) → [Image Quality/Rec] → [Log Shooting Setting] → Perform the following settings.
      • [Log Shooting] → [On (Flexible ISO)]
      • [Color Gamut] → desired setting.
      • [Embed LUT File] → desired setting.
    2. [HDMI Output Settings]

MENU → (Setup) → [External Output] →[HDMI Output Settings] → [RAW Output] → [On].

      Hint

      • When [RAW Output] is set to [On] and the camera is connected to a RAW-compatible device, RAW movies are output.
      • When the camera is connected to a non-RAW compatible device, this setting is disabled.
Settings that are enabled when outputting RAW movies
Rec. Media dur HDMI Output :
When [RAW Output] is set to [On]
Sets whether or not to record movies on the memory card of the camera during HDMI output.
    • [On]: Records movies on the memory card of the camera, and outputs the movies to the HDMI-connected device at the same time. The color depth for the output movie is based on [Record Setting] under [Movie Settings].
[Off(HDMI Only)]: Does not record movies on the memory card of the camera, and outputs movies only to devices connected via HDMI.

    Hint

To record movies on the memory card of the camera, also perform the following settings.
    * RAW movies cannot be recorded on the memory card of the camera.

    • MENU → (Shooting) → [Image Quality/Rec] → [File Format] → desired setting.
    • MENU → (Shooting) → [Image Quality/Rec] → [Movie Settings] → Select an item to set, and then select the desired setting.

To record a low-bit-rate proxy movie simultaneously, also perform the following settings.

    • MENU → (Shooting) → [Image Quality/Rec] → [Proxy Settings] → Select an item to set, and then select the desired setting.
    RAW Output Setting :
Sets the frame rate when outputting RAW movies to another RAW-compatible device connected via HDMI.
    NTSC: [60p] / [30p] / [24p]
    PAL: [50p] / [25p]
    Time Code Output :
Sets whether or not to output the time code and user bit to another device connected via HDMI. ([On] / [Off])
Time code information is transmitted as digital data, not as an image displayed on the screen. The connected device can then refer to the digital data in order to recognize the time data.
    REC Control :
Sets whether to start or stop recording on an external recorder/player remotely by operating the camera when the camera is connected to the external recorder/player. ([On] / [Off])
    4ch Audio Output :
Sets the combination of audio channels that will be output to other devices connected via HDMI when recording audio in 4 channels.
[CH1/CH2]: Outputs audio from channel 1 to the L (left) side and from channel 2 to the R (right) side.
[CH3/CH4]: Outputs audio from channel 3 to the L (left) side and from channel 4 to the R (right) side.
    1. Setting Atomos Ninja TX / Ninja TX GO

Refer to the operating manual of Atomos Ninja TX / Ninja TX GO to perform the settings.

    1. Hints and Notes on camera settings

    Hint

    • We recommend using either color temperature setting or Custom Setting for the white balance setting when shooting RAW movies.
    • With [REC Control] set to [On], (STBY) is displayed when a recording command is ready to be sent to the external recorder/player. (REC) is displayed when the recording command is sent to the external recorder/player.
    • While the camera outputs RAW movies, the frame rate of the movie that can be recorded on media will be the same as the frame rate selected using [RAW Output Setting].
    • While the camera outputs RAW movies, [File Format], which can be used for recording movies on the media, will be limited to 4K movies. If you want to record movies in HD size, record a proxy movie at the same time as recording a movie.

    Notes

    • RAW movies cannot be recorded on the memory card of the camera.
    • While the camera outputs RAW movies, [HDMI Info. Display] becomes temporarily set to [Off].
    • When [Rec. Media dur HDMI Output] is set to [Off(HDMI Only)], the counter does not move forward (the actual recording time is not counted) while the movie is being recorded on an external recorder/player.
    • When [Time Code Output] is set to [Off], you cannot set [REC Control].
    • Even when (REC) is displayed, the external recorder/player may not work properly depending on the settings or status of the recorder/player. Check if the external recorder/player works properly before use.
    • It is not possible to output audio in 4 channels to other devices connected via HDMI.
    • The gamma is locked to S-Log3 during RAW output.
You can reproduce contrast equivalent to that of the normal gamma by setting [Display LUT] to [On] and [Select LUT] to [709(800%)].
    • Extended ISO with a low sensitivity setting cannot be used during RAW output.
    • While outputting RAW movies, you cannot use [Active] and [Dynamic active] for [SteadyShot].

Image sizes and frame rates when recording RAW movies

Refer to the table below for the image size and frame rate corresponding to RAW movie shooting.

    Image Size/RAW Output Setting

    Image Size RAW Output Setting
